Nadja Michael

Nadja Michael studied singing in Stuttgart and at the University of Bloomington/Indiana, USA.

She is regular guest in the most prestigious theaters in the world, singing for the most renowned conductors of our time. She sang in the Arena di Verona, in Glyndebourne and at the Salzburg Festivals. She worked together with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra more than once, for example as Brangäne in Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde under Daniel Barenboim and as Didon in Berlioz’ Les Troyens with Zubin Mehta.

In February 2007, she had a great success as Salome at La Scala in Milan, followed by an equally impressive success singing Fidelio at the Wiener Staatsoper.

After such successful productions like Salome at the ROH Covent Garden London, she made her debut in Médée by Cherubini at La Monnaie in Brussels, 2008. After that she performed: Lady Macbeth in Macbeth in Chicago and at the opening of the 08/09 season at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich where she returned as Medea in Medea in Corinto by G.S. Mayr; Marie in Wozzeck by Berg under Daniel Barenboim at the State Opera Unter den Linden in Berlin. The first modern part Montezuma/ Rihm (The conquest of Mexico) at the Teatro Real de Madrid in 2013 under Alejo Perez, opened new spaces and turned out a triumph.

Nadja Michael was awarded many prizes for her various opera roles and artistic performances. Especially noticeable was the granting of the goldenen Stimmgabel von Arte for her performance as Salome in 2008 and a nomination in the category Opera with Salome at the Royal Opera House in London, for the highly treasured South Bank Show Itv award 2009.

More recently she performed: Lady Macbeth in Macbeth at the Metropolitan Opera New York; Médée by Cherubini at the Téâtre des Champs Élysées Paris; Poppea in L’Incoronazione di Poppea by Monteverdi in Madrid and at the Théâtre du Châtele in Paris; Die tote Stadt at the  Polish National Opera and at La Monnaie in Brussels; Die Sache Makropulos in Munich; Erwartung at the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto (2014); Bluebeard's Castle at the Metropolitan in New York, Valery Gergiev conducting and Mariusz Trelinski directing; Wagner's Parsifal  at the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires Katharina Wagner's directing; a series of concerts in Dresden and South America. In autumn 2015 she made her debut as Isolde in Tristan und Isolde in Amsterdam, after that she starred in the title role of Fosca by Gomes at the Municipal de Sao Paulo; as Lady Macbeth in Macbeth in Warsaw, Fabio Biondi conducting; in Elektra (title role) in Lisbon;in  Salome (title role) at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona; in Turandot (role title) in Berlin and St. Petersburg.
