Claudio Sgura
Claudio Sgura is considered one of the most important baritones of his
generation, regularly invited by the most prestigious Italian and
international opera houses, where he particularly distinguishes himself in
the Verdi, Puccini and verismo repertoire. Born in Puglia, he began his
vocal studies in Lecce with soprano Maria Mazzotta. Winner of the “Voci
Verdiane” International Singing Competition in Busseto in 2006, he made
his debut the following year at Teatro alla Scala in the role of Sharpless
in Madama Butterfly, under the musical direction of Myung-whun
Chung. Since then, he has performed in the world’s leading opera houses,
including Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Wiener Staatsoper, Opéra
National de Paris, Bayerische Staatsoper, Sydney Opera House, New National
Theatre Tokyo, Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, Teatro di San Carlo,
Teatro La Fenice, Teatro Regio in Turin, Teatro dell'Opera di Roma.
